Our proud History!

Welcome to the Dolphin's History Page! The Damascus Dolphins Swim Team has a proud and rich tradition of competitive excellence throughout its 42 seasons in the Montgomery County Swim League.

Certainly, the Dolphins history is intertwined with the greater story of the Montgomery County Swim League. The Montgomery County Swim League began in 1958 with a few families wanting to provide a better summer for their children and finding like-minded people at other community pools. The MCSL began with the initial pools of Cedarbrook, Connecticut-Belair, Glenwood, Kenmont, Garrett Park, and Merlands. The league has grown from these humble beginnings into a nationally respected organization with 88 teams.

The Damascus Dolphins joined the league in 1967, nine years after it began. The early Dolphin families and the Dolphin families of today have much in common, as we are all just trying to make a difference and provide a better summer for our Dolphins. To all that came before, and parents of today's Dolphins, we thank you for your help and hard work enabling the success of this fine program. We also want to thank our great competitors over the years, Flower Valley, Quince Orchard, Mill Creek Towne, Tanterra, Hallowell, River Falls, Darnestown, Robin Hood, Calverton and so many others. The battles in the pool have been legendary, while the community on the deck has been great.

Over the years, the Dolphins came, practiced hard, and made the greater Damascus community proud. But, the Dolphins like their namesakes always had fun and made fun, making Damascus summers a little brighter!

What follows is a compilation of the team pictures and competitive records by year, a Dolphin Yearbook. Charting your course in the future is sometimes helped by a look at where you have been. History is prologue. Certainly, the Dolphins have been more successful than not over the years. Notably, the Dolphins have earned eight Division "A" championships. This is the most of any team in the league to date. The Dolphins have also earned three B Division crowns, one C Division Crown, two D Division Crowns, and one E Division Crown over the years. Swimming is a cyclical sport with team's performance fluctuating over several year periods. We have been going through some learning and challenging times over the past several seasons. However, one thing is certain, the Dolphins remain a competitive and vibrant team.... and the story continues. Go Dolphins!
