Coach Kevin's Corner

WOW! What a busy week… and it will continue… to recap:

Wednesday- we had a marathon of a B-meet against Flower Valley were once again, the competition proved to be too much but the Dolphins managed a plethora of top times, 126 out of 240 swims..

Thursday- we had a fantastic turn out for our Cookie Meet. For those of you that do not know about this meet- it is an opportunity for any Damascus Pool member to gain experience swimming a length of the pool in a meet-like situation. Thirty-six swimmers swam at this year’s Cookie Meet, many of them Porpoises who have improved dramatically to swim unassisted down the pool. Thank you to ALL of the volunteer swim team members and parents who came out to support the Cookie Meet, the coaches and I appreciate your efforts.

Friday- it was my understanding that this was the first time we, the Damascus Dolphins, participated in the Damascus Parade… It was AWESOME! Over 50 swim team members and parents came out and walked or rode in one of our four vehicles in the parade. Coach Tiffany, Rachel and I rode in a convertible (I felt like a princess- Hee-Hee-Hee- and had so much fun squirting the parade onlookers with a water-gun) while Coach Casey rode in one of the trailers with other swim team members and led cheers and squirted the crowd with his water-guns. Thank you to Mrs. Berringer for organizing and working out all the fine details for this event and to Mr. Baube, Mr.Schwarzenberg, Mr. Byrnes and Mr. Berringer for driving the parade vehicles… it was a HUGE success!

Saturday- we went ‘Country’ against River Falls. They proved to be a tough opponent and we edged them out in a great meet winning by only 15 points- 403.5 to 388.5. CONGRATULATIONS Dolphins! We are now 3-1 with one dual-meet remaining!

Sunday- we returned to site of our awesome dual-meet last week at Regency Estates and took 1st Place in the Division ‘D’ A-Relay Carnival. It was another impressive showing prompting Coach Casey to ask the Dolphin swimmers if we should swim ALL of our meets at the Regency pool. “We swim fast at this pool!” he said. So fast in fact that 7 out of the 23 relays swum at A-Relays qualified for the All-Star Relay meet in August. It was an exciting meet, the coaches have lost their voices and my legs are sore from jumping too much along the sidelines. We are so proud of you Dolphins! CONGRATULATIONS on a great win!

RECORD NEWS!

Congratulations to Josh Kiehl. On Saturday, he set a NEW DAMASCUS TEAM RECORD in the Boys 13-14 50M Freestyle. His time of 26.69 beats the old time of Mark Ward, a great Damascus swimmer who later became a Damascus Coach! Great Job, Josh!
